Subject: Search for Barbie Day 46
I'm very tired and sore -- last night I was so worn out that I didn't even get "Day 46" journaled!
I took a much needed vacation day, and had the opportunity to rescue a sweet little Schipperke named "Our Benny Bear" (call name "Ben"). He's so incredibly cute, and full of energy! His birthdate according to his papers is January 18, 1998. This means he is full grown, but whew does he have energy!
When I got him home and back from the groomers, we went on a long long walk with Beasley and Benny and I. Such a hoot. I'm hoping that once Beasley becomes accustomed to Benny's energy level they'll be wonderful friends.
What's the difference between walking a beagle and walking a Shipperke? Well, Beasley goes out to the end of the leash and pulls very hard to get wherever he wants to go. Benny on the other hand goes out to the end of the leash at top speed, then turns around and comes back (also at top speed) and then runs out to the end again at top speed... until the initial zoomies are done. Then he trots along like a "normal" dog.
For whatever reason, I feel very comfortable and at ease with this little black dynamo.
My parents think that some family probably is taking care of Barbie, and doesn't want to give her back. I certainly feel more comfortable with the idea of a family caring for Barbie than I do with the idea of her running around loose scavenging for food, but still I just wish I knew for sure.
It was a hard decision for me to make, but I decided to rest this weekend, and take some time for myself and Beasley (and Benny). So we're going to Indianapolis to visit a dog park and spend some time playing and relaxing. I can still check my voicemail and return calls just like if I was at home, so if there are any hot leads I will be able to respond. But I really needed some time to relax and recharge.
A few days ago, I wrote a letter to Barbie, telling her how much I love her and miss her, and how I'm not mad at her for becoming frightened and dashing off like she did. I wish I knew where to send it!
